Health and care is a fantastic career choice for young people:
• With over 40,000 employees in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire, the NHS is collectively one of the largest employers in our region
• Health and care is a growth area - jobs are rewarding and - as we've seen through the pandemic - highly valued by our communities
• Opportunities are hugely varied - and can suit those who prefer practical learning as well as those who are interested in further study
• There is strong demand - the NHS currently have 450 vacancies for support worker roles and 650 vacancies for nurses. Once trained, lots of doors open
First Steps into Nursing: Virtual Work Experience Week 5th-9th July 2021
There are now more ways to train as a nurse than ever before - with options for those who want to start earning straight away and figure out what's right for them. To explain the various routes, you can take and the wide range of opportunities available, Healthier Together (the partnership of local NHS health and social care organisations) are running a virtual work experience week. The programme includes five live webinars at 10.00 each morning, covering:
• an introduction to careers in health and care
• interviews with care workers, nursing apprentices and nurses
• essential communication skills
• simulation exercises hosted by University Hospitals Bristol and Weston, including an A&E situation
• tips on applications, apprenticeship searches and the interview process
As part of the programme all participants will complete a final assignment focused on the information contained within the modules and webinars. Each student will receive feedback from the sector and will also receive information on their possible next steps in their journey.
