Volunteers Needed for Summer Reading Challenge 2024
North Somerset Libraries are looking for volunteers to help run
this year’s Summer Reading Challenge. This could be an excellent opportunity if
you are looking for work experience, experience to add to a CV, or volunteering
opportunities for the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Volunteering is a great way to
build confidence for young people.
The annual scheme encourages children aged 4 to 11 to keep reading
throughout the summer holidays, develop their literacy, and have fun visiting
the library. This year’s challenge runs from Saturday 6 July to Saturday 14
September, and volunteers aged 14 and over are needed to talk to children about
the books they have read and to hand out rewards.
Flexible volunteering sessions are available at libraries across
North Somerset during the summer and full training will be provided.
If you have a few hours to spare, are enthusiastic about reading
and encouraging children to take part in the Challenge, this would be an ideal
opportunity. You do not need any previous experience of volunteering or working
in a library.
Please find attached a Volunteer Role description which explains
more about the role.
North Somerset Libraries are accepting applications for
volunteering via their website http://www.n-somerset.gov.uk/src-volunteering, where you will find a link to the online application form. You
can also contact them by email library.volunteers@n-somerset.gov.uk or by phone on 01275 888
864, and they can also provide paper copies of the application form if an
applicant would prefer.
The closing date for applications is Monday 10 June 2024.

students start their University of Bristol story.

· To understand how senior individuals have navigated the world of work through their own disability lens.
· Employers are joining to share how they are navigating and evolving their approach to ensure they are inclusive employers for those with any form of disability and why every individual should feel comfortable sharing themselves, so adjustments can be made that enable individuals to be the best version of themselves when applying for a role.
